Karoline Edtstadler was appointed Governor of Salzburg in July 2025. She previously served as Federal Minister for the EU and Constitution (2020–2025), Member of the European Parliament (2019–2020) and of the National Council (2024- until July 2025), and as Deputy Minister at the Federal Ministry of the Interior (2017–2019). She also worked as a legal expert at the European Court of Human Rights and served as a judge at Salzburg Regional Court.
